In the context of the COMMA Art City project in Perugia we’re going to pay special attention to the 15 international, but Amsterdam based artists involved. We talked to each and everyone and asked them 4 questions.
Today: Abner Preis (US)
Describe your style of work.
I’m a storyteller. My style of work is all about, what I call, the bottle. The bottle is a set of tools that assists my entry into someones feelings, instead of working against them. This way I am able to make a connection with someone on an emotional level.
What is the idea behind the work you did for COMMA?
I brought my superhero costumes to Perugia and did a performance here. The performance basically consists of me dressing up as superhero and interacting with the people. I also let the people dress up as heroes and take pictures, which I present in the show. I also made video installation, where two superhero friends meet in Perugia to create more superheroes.
What did you like best about your experience in Perugia?
The whole trip was amazing. The city is beautiful and everybody is so generous with everything. It’s just a shame that my head is up my ass and that I can’t take it all in.
What do you hope to give to the people of Perugia with your work here?
My work, the Superhero Project, is all about them. It is them! I hope they understand and that I could share the experience with them.
