Vancouver based Camilla d’Errico, creator of Tanpopo, Helmetgirls and Burn received her first career nomination from The Joe Shuster Awards for her work on Sky Pirates of Neo Terra #4-5, and Red Riding Hood in the Fractured Fables Anthology (Image Comics).
The Joe Shuster Awards are Canada’s first national award recognizing outstanding achievement in the creation of comic books. They are named after pioneering Toronto-born artist Joe Shuster who, along with writer Jerry Siegel, created the iconic super-powered hero, Superman.
“I am honored and humbled to be nominated in this category, and in the company of some of the entire comic book industry’s best artists”, says an elated d’Errico, “This nomination means so much to me because I’ve worked hard to establish myself in this field and to follow my dream despite opposition and doubts at times. I am proud to be a Canadian comic book artist.”
A prestigious award, and equally prestigious nomination, The Joe Shuster Awards give recognition to — and raise awareness of — the efforts made by Canadians who make, publish and sell comic books, webcomics and graphic novels. In the category of Outstanding Comic Book Artist, Camilla d’Errico is in the running with other artists: Stuart Immonen, Jacques Lamontage, Francis Manapul, Julie Rocheleau, Fiona Staples and Cameron Stewart.
The awards ceremony will take place at a public ceremony in Calgary, Alberta on the evening of Saturday, June 18th, 2011 at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo which takes place June 17-19, 2011 at the BMO Round-Up Centre.
Congratulations Camilla!
